GRAND RAPIDS, MI: The West Michigan Savoyards will be presenting their annual Gilbert and Sullivan production at the Wealthy Theatre April 25-28, 2013. They have performed a show every year since 1999. This year's show will be The Pirates of Penzance.
Gilbert & Sullivan wrote many highly successful comic operettas in the late 1800s. Their shows bring humor, wit, parody and comic satire to government and society norms of the time. Gilbert and Sullivan's, The Pirates of Penzance lifts up the social and political issues of Victorian England and how those issues relate to society today.
"It is our mission to enrich the community of greater Grand Rapids and West Michigan by continuing the tradition of producing Gilbert & Sullivan performances," said the show's director, Bill McAndrew.
Named for the famous Savoy Theatre in London, the West Michigan Savoyards are a performing reportorial company, and are a non-profit section 501(c) (3). They are offering a scholarship program for high school juniors and seniors and are committed to making community theater available to seniors and students who might otherwise not be able to attend a live Gilbert and Sullivan performance.
