Workers coming out of the Plaza Towers basement.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) -- Cars and other vehicles submerged for days beneath flood waters in a Grand Rapids parking garage finally are being removed.
MLive.com reports (http://bit.ly/17BOi1i) that vehicle owners at the 32-story Plaza Towers are meeting Friday with insurance company representatives as their vehicles are being towed away.
About 80 vehicles were parked April 20 when authorities evacuated guests and residents from the hotel, apartment and condominium complex as flood waters rose up to 11 feet in the garage.
Several days of heavy rain caused the Grand River in Grand Rapids to rise over its banks.
Crews had to pump water from the Plaza Towers garage. The vehicles are believed to be damaged beyond repair by the water.
About 1,000 residents still are waiting to return to the complex.
