ORLEANS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - Ionia County Sheriff's deputies believe a crash that injured two people happened when the driver began switching seats with his passenger.
It happened around 4 p.m. Saturday on West Belding Road near Decker Road in Orleans Township. Deputies say it appears the driver, a 22-year-old man from Greenville was heading east on W. Belding Road when he began swapping seats with a 20-year-old woman from Ionia. During the shift, the woman lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road, hitting a tree.
The woman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle. The man was pinned in the wreckage. Firefighters freed the man using the Jaws of Life. He was flown to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital, where his condition is stable. Paramedics took the woman to United Memorial Hospital in Greenville with non-life threatening injuries.
Deputies say speed and alcohol did not play a role in the crash.
