(WZZM)- Celebrate the arrival of spring weather at one of these great weekend events.
Brian Nylaan D.D.S has been hosting free outdoor Zumba classes in support of local charities for two years now. Dancers have donated more than $5,000 since the start of the classes.
On Saturday, head to the offices for a special class aiming to raise money for Gilda's Club. The Zumbathon: Stomping Out Oral Cancer was organized in honor of a patient who recently passed away due to oral cancer.
Nylaan and his staff chose Gilda's Club as the beneficiary of this event because of its work to promote emotional health through laughter.
Registration is open for day-of sign-ups. You can register starting at 10 a.m. at the Brian Nylaan D.D.S offices, located at 5011 Plainfield Ave. NE in Grand Rapids. The 90-minute dance class starts at 11 a.m.
The Zumbathon is completely free, but it is a fundraiser, so participants are encouraged to donate what they can. There will be items up for auction as well as some fun giveaways throughout the class.
If you are celebrating Cinco de Mayo in Grand Rapids, you must hit the 2nd Annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta in the Arena District.
On Saturday, adults 21 and up can experience live music, great food, dancing, a Buffalo Wild Wings wing-eating contest, and other activities like a pinata swing-off.
Last year, the event brought in about 1,000 people, but this year, organizers expect that number to jump!
Tickets are $15 at the gate. The fun starts at noon and ends at 10 p.m. on Saturday.
If you are looking to cook the family an authentic Mexican meal on Sunday, sign-up for this great cooking class at the Family Fare Culinary Classroom in Grandville.
The class is on Saturday at 10 a.m. It lasts until 1 p.m. For $40, Chef Terri Rees will teach you how to make sweet corn tamales and other authentic mexican dishes. There will also be a beer sampling along with the class. That means you have to be 21 years old and older to sign up.
