The shooting occurred at the 3000 block of 6th Street in Muskegon Heights.

The Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office is charging McBride with manslaughter and felony firearm. Jail records indicate McBride also faces charges for failing to register as a sex offender.

The police investigation concluded the shooting of Pace was accidental. He was shot one time in the head.

McBride was arrested early Wednesday, Dec. 20 in Muskegon Heights.

"This could have been prevented," said Joseph Thomas Jr., Muskegon Heights Police Chief.

Thomas said the accidental shooting is a classic case of a gun firing while someone is displaying it "to be cool."

Thomas went on to say police cannot prevent this kind of activity.

"Parents need to teach kids not to carry or play with guns," Thomas said. "Guns are not vogue."

McBride was arraigned on those charges on Thursday, Dec. 21.
