A woman is dead after she was shot at her home in Wyoming early Monday morning, Jan. 1.

Wyoming police said they were called to a home on Lee Street SW around 4:45 a.m. for a reported shooting. Officers found the 25-year-old woman with at least one gunshot wound, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Social media pages linked to the victim identify her as Letti Vela.

"The suspect had fled on foot," said Lt. Timothy Pols. "[Police] utilized a canine to track the suspect. The suspect was located about a mile away from the incident location and within 15 minutes of the original call. He was outside still."

Kent County Jail records indicate the suspect is LaDale Tracy Willia Nelson. Police say LaDale and the victim lived together in the house where she was murdered.

"There is no danger posed at this point," Pols said. "There was a weapon recovered at the scene."

The relationship between the victim and the suspect, as well as what led up to the shooting, are both still under investigation.
