While making year-end donations, consider a non-profit senior living community like Resthaven

Resthaven’s Benevolent Care Fund allows them to continue to provide care and services to their residents even after they’ve run out of funds. Here's how you can help

HOLLAND, Michigan — The holidays have always been a time of giving and with Thanksgiving coming up, and then Giving Tuesday that following week, you might be considering where to help.

Lindsey Zona is Fund Development Manager at Resthaven and she joined us to make the case for supporting this non-profit, senior-living community.

She said, “Resthaven is the only non-profit senior living community along the lakeshore in West Michigan, and like most non-profits, we rely on gifts from our community in order to continue to provide the high level of care and support that we have been providing for nearly 78 years now. And in reality, the needs and desires for seniors today, are different from those of seniors 10 years ago, and so donations and gifts allow us to make those upgrades and offer innovative spaces.”

Zona said the theme of their work this year is Grow. Embrace. Strengthen.

She explained that one of their biggest ongoing priorities has been to grow their offerings to meet the needs of the growing number of seniors.”

“With an aging population that will reach 80 million within the next twenty years, it’s vital that we stand ready and have the housing and medical services to support these seniors. Our newest projects, The Farmstead will add 104 independent living units and 24 assisted living memory care units. And The River Place recently opened downtown Holland, which is a unique, vibrant, urban place to live right in the heart of downtown Holland. Those two new offerings certainly make a difference in the offerings that West Michigan has to offer.”

Zona explained Resthaven’s Benevolent Care Fund, which allows them to continue to provide care and services to their residents even after they’ve run out of funds.

“More than 50% of the residents in our assisted living and skilled nursing care require some level of Benevolent Care … so it’s important that we maintain a robust Benevolent Care fund so that we can continue to provide for seniors when they no longer have the resources to pay for the care that they need and deserve. Those are donation dollars hard at work, and well-spent.”

There are several ways to support this work.
