Taste of My Town: Ada Pour House

In this week's Taste of My Town, we check out the newly re-opened Ada Pour House.

The Ada Pour House is celebrating a grand re-opening with new food, new drinks and a new look. We checked it out for this week's Taste of My Town.

With a name like Ada Pour House, you know beverages are a specialty. But so is the food. "I specialize in simple, really home cooked foods," said Chef Jeffrey Jones.

And people are noticing. "I live on the other side of town, it's not convenient for me. I just come for the food," said one diner.

"We are a gastro pub which entails on the higher end of food and wine, beers, liquors, things like that, with a casual atmosphere," he explained.

In the midst of celebrating their grand re-opening the restaurant has all kinds of new menu options. "We're doing a lot more seafood this time around. We are getting into our spring season so we'll have a lot more fresh vegetables, locally sourced produce. With the new menu we are upping the vegetarian options as well.

New food AND a new vibe. "I love a lot of the natural wood, the rustic feel," said Jeff. "We wanted to really open up the restaurant a little bit and kind of create a more community feel, we put in these brand new all wood tables that we considered community tables," he explained.

Between the drinks, the food, and the atmosphere diners are pleased with the changes,"It's fantastic and it's very close to where we work, great ambiance, plenty of room and high ceilings, excellent fries too," said another diner.

"It's healthy. There is organic stuff here and it really caters to everybody and it's simple so if you want a great main dish you can get that, or if you want crab cakes which is my favorite you can get that," said another visitor.

"I've been here several times, everything I've eaten here has been spectacular from the burgers to the chicken sandwich was really good, the chili I had was also really good," said a diner.

The cocktail menu is also getting a fresh take. "We're creating new cocktails, fresh ingredients we want everything to be super original but you can get the same old same old that you would get at the local dive bar down the street but we want to make it special for our customers," said bar manager Joya Schmitt.

That means lots of Michigan craft beers on tap, plus some other favorites from out of town. And something you certainly don't see everywhere. You can belly up to the bar, or take one to go.

In addition to their grand re-opening in early March, Ada Pour House is hosting a beer, wine and sweets tasting event on March 12. On March 19 they are hosting a beer day with Perrin.
