Fuego: A Fusion Kitchen has really gotten people talking with their unique and flavorful menu...and they're doing it all in a place you may find unlikely.
From sushi to tacos...sounds like something you'd find in a big city, right? Not exactly.
"This started out as a chef's dream. We wanted to do something where we have flavors from all over the world under one roof so you have sushi here, you have tacos here, you have breads and spreads here, sandwiches. You have dinner entrees: Japanese omelettes to chop steak to thai chicken pasta. We have it all," said operations manager Ethan Osborn.
So where can you find this eclectic restaurant? Far away from city lights, in Grant.
"I'm kind of shocked. When I first heard about it and I had the thought, how can they make it in Grant? But, they are and I hope they continue," said a diner.
"When we first heard they were opening here, we thought this is going to be amazing, it's something close. My husband and I enjoy coming here as well for our dates. It's just a great great thing here for Grant," said another diner who was enjoying sushi with her sister.
"I knew that there was something missing and it was an opportunity to fill in the void," said Chef Joaquin Acamapichtli. "It had just never been done. When I saw a lack of sushi or tacos and then the fusion food and stuff. It was an opportunity for me to come out and do something exciting, new and fresh and daring."
"There were some downers saying that sushi would never work out here but I'm going to tell you it goes well here because there's no market to compete with what we're doing," said Ethan.
Chef Joaquin demonstrated how he makes one of their most popular sushi rolls, the Conor McGregor, named for a UFC fighter. The roll has octopus, salmon, cream cheese, avocado and tempura spinach.
"It's so different from anything else that we had in town. Even locally it's so great to have something different and be able to enjoy something here and just be able to be local," said another visitor.
"The flavors. They're so unusual and good. You'll get a taste of one thing and then it'll jump to another flavor. It's like, oh, that was good too and another bite and another flavor. It's just wonderful," said another.
"Fuego is only going up from here," said Ethan. "This year we are going to be working on getting our Class C liquor license so beverages will be in the future and we are working on our expansion. We're just very blessed for all the support we're getting from the community."
Fuego: A Fusion Kitchen is located in Grant on West Main Street. They are closed Mondays and Tuesdays but are open the other five days a week starting at 11 a.m. Click here to check out their menu!
