Taste of My Town: Georgina's Fusion Cuisine

Grand Rapids is the second location for Georgina's Fusion Cuisine, which launched just after the new year.

Georgina's Fusion Cuisine is exactly that - a fusion of food from all over the world. And there's nowhere quite like it in West Michigan.

The restaurant opened in January of 2018 on Wealthy Street in Grand Rapids' Eastown district. Owner and head chef Anthony Craig was excited for the move to Grand Rapids.

"I grew up in Tampa Florida and there's this place called Ybor City in south Tampa and they have these beautiful red brick roads," said Craig. "As soon as I drove past here in the summer and I saw the red brick roads and people walking through, I said this is my Ybor City."

Craig is no stranger to the restaurant business - this is a second location for Georgina's. The first is located in downtown Traverse City and is a favorite among the locals.

Craig's unique menu is a celebration of his multi-cultural roots. His mother is half Chinese, half Nicaraguan while his father is Cuban. You'll find staples from all three areas on the menu.

"There's been a lack of Caribbean, South American type food," said a diner. "It's good to bring a different variety of Spanish or Latin type of foods to Grand Rapids."

Some of the dishes are those he ate himself while growing up in Nicaragua, while others are classics in the culture, but with a twist from Craig.

"I always tell people you must leave happy here," added Craig. "If something's not right I'll fix it. You know why? Because this is not my business, it's my dream."

Georgina's is open every day starting at 11 a.m. Head to their website or Facebook page to check out the menu and find more information.
