Veterans Day is Friday, Nov. 11 and there are things happening all West Michigan. Make sure to carry proof of service or valid military ID for entry and participation in some events. Also, check out the list of freebies offered to veterans on this day.

Grand Rapids Veterans Day Parade
The city of Grand Rapids will honor veterans on Friday, Nov. 11 at its annual Veterans Day Parade.
Time: Parade starts 7 p.m. Streets will be closed starting at 6 p.m.

Wyoming Veterans Day Ceremony
The city of Wyoming will be holding it's annual Veterans Day Ceremony -- Wyoming Mayor Jack Poll will host and Colonel Dennis Gillem, one of the most decorated Michigan veterans, will be the guest speaker for the event.

Empire Beauty Schools Haircuts for Heroes
Empire Beauty Schools is offering all Veterans and current armed forces personnel complimentary haircuts to say thank you for all their courageous service to our country. During the Haircuts for Heroes event, Friday, Nov. 11 all Veterans and active service members can to the complimentary services performed by senior level students under the supervision of licensed educators. Guests are required to bring in proof of service or valid military ID.

Grand Rapids Brewing Company Veterans Event
Grand Rapids Brewing Company is bring a representative from the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency to provide resources about benefits and programs available to Michigan Veterans while offering free meals all day. There will also be opportunities for Veterans to apply for jobs with GRBC and sister restaurants HopCat and Stella's Lounge.

"A Time to Serve: Remembering World War II" Book Unveiling
Sunset Retirement Communities and Services is honoring is veteran residents with an unveiling and discussion of "A Time to Serve: Remembering World War II" written by Ada historian Betty Epperly. Epperly's novel contains stories told by Sunset residents.

My Community Dental Centers' Free Dental Day
My Community Dental Centers (MCDC) is offering free dental care to Veterans and those in need of dental services. Services provided include cleaning, filling, or extraction (teeth removal). Services will be first come, first serve -- Veterans and their families will receive priority, but must bring DD214 documentation. Open House for the Patriot House
On Friday, Nov. 11 the Patriot House is holding it's open house and house blessings. The Patriot House is a 7 bedroom single room occupancy home for homeless veterans in the Muskegon area. This is a private endeavor and remodeled by out-of-work veterans.

Muskegon Community College Veterans Day Ceremony
Muskegon area residents will have an opportunity to commemorate America's Armed Forces contributions on Nov. 11. The ceremony will consist of reflections, tributes and performances of patriotic music and military branch anthems.

Belding Veterans Park Freedom Wall Dedication
The Belding Veterans Park is having a dedication to the five Belding soldiers who were killed. The faces of the fallen soldiers will be on the wall.

ShoeString Productions "A Six Pak of Guinness" Show
ShoeStrings Productions has organized a benefit for the men and women currently living in the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Two local bands, The Six Pak and The Guinness Brothers Band, have come together to host and perform at the event. All proceeds will be used to provide services and/or items needed by the veterans.
