Grant Me Hope introduces us to Charles

Meet this week's Grant Me Hope child, 11-Year-Old Charles.

When Charles works with Legos, “everything is awesome” because he’s an artist who can build beautiful projects. He has a wonderful imagination and can create something with almost anything.

“Charles is very detail oriented and is a skilled builder with Legos or other building materials,” says his worker. Charles also shows an interest in animals and science. He loves watching the animated PBS children’s series “Wild Kratts.”

This future scientist/engineer should be good at selling his projects since he often initiates conversations. His worker says the conversations do not always follow a logical sequence, but then again, scientists – even young ones – can be a tad eccentric. Charles’s engineering interests extend to trains. “Charles enjoys imaginative play in which he is the conductor of a train,” says his worker. “He creates boarding passes and provides the money to ride his train.” However, instead of an engineer or conductor, Charles wants to become a police officer when he gets older.

When he’s asked about the qualities he wants in a future forever family, Charles says he wants one who likes playing with Legos and has pets.

Charles can struggle at times with behavior and receives services to help him manage his emotions. He responds well to redirection. His foster father says that Charles has made steady improvements. In school, Charles receives assistance to help him function at his best.

Due to his past and his needs, Charles would do best with a forever family who has two experienced parents who can provide consistent structure and guidance. His family must be willing to seek the services to meet Charles’ needs now and into the future. He also would do best as the youngest or only child in the family.
