Summer time road trips sometimes mean traveling with your family pets, which can be a challenge without the right resources.
Elizabeth McEwen, the owner of Mind Your Manners Dog Training of West Michigan, shared her top three apps to help traveling with your pet a breeze:
- BringFido.com is a website that makes finding Fido-friendly hotels, restaurants, activities, events, services and more a breeze. Search by destination city or browse by type of activity or rating. For those times when you forgot to pack your poop bags and need to find the closest store in an unfamiliar town, or when you need to find an emergency veterinarian open at 4:00 a.m., Bring Fido's local resources directory has information on local pet stores, veterinarians, doggie day care facilities, sitters, groomers, trainers and other pet professionals in more than 10,000 cities worldwide.
- GoPetFriendly.com is another marvelous website for pet travel. Pet-friendly accommodations, restaurants, campgrounds, dog beaches and even wineries can be found in this valuable resource. Follow GoPetFriendly.com founders Amy and Rod Burkert with their pooches Ty and Buster on The Ultimate Pet Friendly Road Trip blog as they visit all of the 48 continental states over the course of their 10-month road trip.
- The Red Cross Pet First Aid app for Android and iOS (FREE) features first aid instructions for dogs and cats, as well as information on how to prepare for various situations, such what to do in emergencies. The app even has a place to enter all of your pet's info, so you can keep track of diet restrictions, medication schedules and vet appointments. Whether you're going across the country or just across the street, this app can literally be a lifesaver.
