When you have a tight budget, you want to give a handmade, heartfelt gift, or if you are looking to decorate you home without breaking the bank, doing it yourself can help you out for the holidays. Producers Katie and Mackenzie wanted to share some simple DIY gifts you can take advantage of this year.

Frosted Glass Jars

  • glass jar
  • epsom salt
  • Modge Podge

Clean the jar you wish to decorate. Use a brush to paint the Modge Podge onto the jar. While the Modge Podge is still wet, sprinkle the salt over the jar and glue. Let it dry and decorate with bows, ribbons, and greenery.

Pinecone Tree Decoration

  • pinecone
  • potpourri
  • decorations -- ribbon, stickers, paint
  • glass jar/small pot

Decorate pinecone and jar/pot to your preference. You can paint them, add ribbons, or stickers to make them look they way you want. Add the potpourri to the jar/pot. Snuggle the pinecone into the potpourri to stand it up.

Hot Chocolate in a Jar

  • mason jar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup powdered milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • chocolate chips
  • marshmallows
  • candy cane pieces

NOTE: There are many recipes for hot chocolate, you can modify this one to your liking or find another.

Pour powdered milk, sugar, and cocoa powder into mason jar so they are separated into layers. You can add chocolate chips, marshmallows, and/or candy cane pieces to each jar to make each jar different. Decorate the jar however you would like.

Personalized Ornaments

  • plastic ornaments
  • puff paint
  • beads
  • fake plastic snow
  • glitter
  • ribbon

Open ornament by taking metal top of and put beads inside. You can substitute glitter, fake snow, ribbon or anything else that will fit inside and look nice. You can decorate the outside of the ornament with stickers, or puff paint with a personalized message. Cut a piece of ribbon and tie it together through the ornament's ring and your ornament is finished.
