There's no shortage of family traditions during the holidays, And on Christmas Eve, many families gather around to read Dr. Clement C. Moore's 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.

But, a local author is using that story to tell the story of Jesus' birth. Glenys Nellist's version is called 'Twas the Evening of Christmas and it echos the language and rhythm of the Christmas classic.

The book's illustrations were done by Elena Selivanova, a graduate from the Moscow State University of Printing Arts. Selivanova has worked for twenty years as a children’s book illustrator.

Nellist was born and raised in a little village in northern England. Her stories and poems have been published in children’s magazines where her writing reflects a deep passion for bringing the Bible to life for young children. Nellist lives in Grand Rapids with her husband, David.
