Brewery females make Woman's Day beer

A new beer fermenting at Grand Armory Brewing in Grand Haven was made to honor International Women's Day.

A new beer fermenting at Grand Armory Brewing in Grand Haven was made to honor International Women's Day.

Thursday female staff, who are usually in charge of pouring and serving beers in the tap room, went behind the scenes to make the special batch. It is a tradition they observe every year on International Women’s Day at Grand Armory Brewing.

Participants say it is a way to commemorate the occasion and offer interested females a beer making experience.

“They started doing a collaboration with women on this day every year,” says tap room assistant manager Stephanie Nash.

“It is trying to get women in the industry more involved with the whole brewing process,” says tap room bartender Cathryn Gleason.

This year the International Woman's Day beer at Grand Armory is an amber ale with a touch of ginger spice.

It will be about two weeks before the beer is ready to pour. It should be available at the Grand Haven tap room by the end of March.
