There's no doubt a decent amount of learning goes on at Allendale High School. But on Monday, Dec. 11 a few students were schooled on a lesson difficult to find in a classroom.

"He's done so much for us, and we know that their family has done so much for Allendale. I guess we just want to pay them back," Zach Regnerus, an Allendale High senior said.

He is the Allendale Varsity Basketball Coach Joe Modderman and his brave wife, Melissa.

"July 2016, we were at the doctors office and they told us we were stage 4 breast cancer," Coach Modderman said. "At that moment in time we knew that was not a good thing."

But since then, the Moddermans have seen a wave of community support with the entire basketball team even shaving their heads in solidarity for her, and on Monday morning, that solidarity carried on live on the radio.

Family friend, Nicole Ford, submitted a letter to Mojo in the Morning asking for a Christmas wish.

"My heart aches for them and even though gifts can't create happiness it'll give the family one less thing to worry about this holiday season," the letter read.

With the help of the radio crew and the Allendale Basketball team, that wish was granted.

"Melissa this is the entire community that loves you very much and wants to bring your house a ton of joy through the Christmas gifts and holiday decorations," Mojo told Melissa Modderman over the radio on Monday.

On a Facebook Live video dozens of gifts could be seen pouring into the Modderman home as the children, Melissa, and Joe look on in shock.

"This is unbelievable. You guys are amazing," Melissa said as she wiped away tears with a smile on her face.

"We got a great family, great friends and just great people in this area that go out of their way to help ya and love on ya," Joe Modderman said.

"It's so encouraging for me as a husband to see my wife loved on. It's a great thing."

The Moddermans got a bunch of gifts for their four children as well as tickets to an upcoming Pistons game they'll be attending with the Allendale High School varsity basketball team.
