Thousands of animals are hoping to find a loving home as part of the BISSELL Pet Foundation's "Empty the Shelters" day.
All adoption fees will be paid by the organization Saturday, April 29, at 65 shelters and other rescue facilities across Michigan, according to a release.
More than 2,000 cats and dogs are expected to be adopted. Last year, the foundation helped place more than 2,800 animals during previous adoption events.
Covered fees average $150 for dogs and $60 for cats. Anyone who adopts still is responsible for licensing fees, which varies from $7-12.
“Many pets in shelters and rescues have never experienced a loving home and EMPTY THE SHELTERS will give so many pets the second chance they deserve,” said Cathy Bissell, founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation, in the release.
In addition to the covered fees, adopters also can take home an "AdoptBox" filled with toys, treats, cleaning products, coupons and a month of pet insurance.
