Go get some Vitamin G! Earthing is good for your health

The theory is that we're made of energy and the earth is made of energy.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Earth Day is a time for taking care of our planet and being more environmentally friendly, but you can also celebrate by re-connecting with it.

There's a new trend called Earthing. It’s all about reconnecting to the earth. The theory is that we're made of energy and the earth is made of energy.

The more time we spend outdoors the more grounded we will be in our everyday life and the healthier we will be both mentally and physically.

There is some research that backs the ways Earthing improves your health.

  1. Reduces inflammation: getting oxygen into our body increases circulation which helps to eliminate waste which reduces inflammation.
  2. Reduces stress: walking barefoot allows you to absorb the earth's energy through the soles of your feet which then balances the energy in your body reducing stress and reduces your blood pressure.
  3. Makes you sleep better: The Journal of Complimentary Medicine found that connecting to the earth by spending time outside regulates your daily cortisol production which improves your sleep.

Here are some ways to get some Vitamin G:

  1. Go barefoot. You absorb the earth's free flowing electrons through the soles of your feet which helps to balance your energy. At the very least wear some flip flops.
  2. Swim in a lake, river, stream or ocean.
  3. Do some mindful walking in the woods or on a beach. And as you walk take in everything. Every snap of a twig or crash of a wave, every sound of a bird.
  4. Roll around on the grass like a dog. It helps to discharge all that negative energy.
  5. Wear something on your head and stand like a tree to and breath in deeply for two minutes to feel the earth's energy moving through you.
