Got a headache? Try standing up straight!

Researchers found out why you feel more energized when you take in more oxygen.

Turns out, Mom was right once again! Standing up straight is good for your health and there are quite a few benefits.

Try this quick little exercise:

  1. Stand up straight and breathe in. Notice how much more air you take into your lung when you stand up straight.
  2. Now slouch or stand like you were before. Notice how you are forced to take in shallow breaths.

Researchers found out why you feel more energized when you take in more oxygen. It's because you’re breathing efficiently by using your whole diaphragm.

Good posture helps you take in more oxygen which energizes your muscles and blood vessels. And it puts all your joints in a better position which helps you perform workout movements better with less chance of injuring yourself.

Good posture reduces your frequency of tension headaches because when you constantly are hunched over, it makes your neck and upper back muscles tight -- which is what can cause headaches.

It also cuts down on your stress. A study out of New Zealand found that participants who stood up straight felt more enthusiastic, excited and strong even in a stressful situation.
