It's spring break -- everyone's gone, it's raining, what better way to cheer myself up than with some chocolate cake? And bonus it may be healthy for you!

The Syracuse University study found when they asked nearly 1,000 people to eat cake for breakfast every day for three months, study participants showed improvement in cognitive skills -- and it may also help you lose weight.

Here's why eating it first thing in the morning is best:

Your body is craving energy to burn and convert food to energy more efficiently at that time. So, that chocolate cake is going to get used up unlike if you ate it say after a big dinner late at night.

You're also less likely to crave sweets later in the day because you've already satisfied your sweet tooth and you don't feel deprived.

And - this is very important - you must eat it before 9 a.m. After that, your body's metabolism is most likely already up and going.

This is based on a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. work day.
