It's National Selfie Day! And there's a pretty good guarantee that you won't have to look far to find one.

There are 93 million selfies posted every day, that's according to a University of Florida researcher who counted them all.

But why do we love to take selfies? It’s not because we’re narcissistic.

The University of Florida study didn't focus on personality, instead they based it on the Theory of Planned Behavior which links attitudes with behaviors and found that they are actually good for your mental health.

So while selfies relate to narcissism, they also relate on an even larger scale to social norms, which include enjoyment and a feeling of connecting to others.

The other point the study made is that selfies also help to create your identity and help us figure out who we want to be or how we want to live our lives.

Posting selfies can help you do anything from improving relationships, to increasing self-esteem to setting new goals for ourselves.
