On Saturday morning, children and families of Northview Public Schools flocked to West Oakview Elementary to see their hometown heroes, and the vehicles they operate.
Seventeen vehicles, ranging from police cars to race cars, were in the school parking lot, allowing children to sit inside the vehicles and learn more about them.
"It's learning about local heroes that they [kids] might see everyday, from their policemen to their firemen, seeing some job opportunities that might be out for them when they grow up," says Shannon Burton, President of the West Oakview Parent Teacher Organization, "as well as some really cool cars that they might not normally get to climb in and check out."
This is the third year for the event, which organizers say gets bigger every year.
Other activities for kids include face-painting and coloring. The event is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
