The Muskegon County Land Bank is making one final effort to save 12 houses from the wrecking ball.

The houses are in the city of Muskegon and Muskegon Heights. Some have been vacant for years -- all have boarded up windows and doors, but these are details of properties that some investors are looking for.

"I buy them and bring them back to life," said Bobby Sisk, owner of Muskegon Affordable Luxury Homes.

On Tuesday, Sisk inspected a two-story house on Jefferson Street in Muskegon Heights. It's one of the 12 the land bank hopes can be saved by investors.

When looking for new rehab projects to take on he looks for a good foundation, even if other elements may need replacing such as the windows and roof. Sisk believes total outside investment in the home would cost around $10,000.

Inside the home on Jefferson, features that stand out are the original hardwood floors, large rooms and overall layout.

Sisk says that the rehab project would include new electrical, plumbing, and insulation for the home, but that a team of professionals could have the house move-in ready in 8 to 10 weeks. The budget for this project would range from $50,000 to $60,000.

Interested bidders should know the county will require new owners to bring the homes up to occupancy within one year. The properties can't be resold for three years. And anyone with with outstanding tax debt in Muskegon County will not be allowed to bid.

The opening bids on the homes is $1,000. It will happen Friday July 28, starting at 9:00 a.m. The auction will take place at 97 East Apple Ave, room 113.
