According to the Kalamazoo County Undersheriff James VanDyken, the shooting happened near Blossom Lane at the Pavilion Estates.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Police in Kalamazoo County are investigating after a man was shot by police at an area mobile home park.

According to the Kalamazoo County Undersheriff James VanDyken, the shooting happened near Blossom Lane at the Pavilion Estates.

VanDyken says deputies were called to the scene just after 11 a.m. Wednesday because people were living in a car parked outside one of the homes. Residents asked the occupants of the car, a man and a woman, to leave and later called police.

On Thursday, April 19 the Kalamzoo County Sheriff's Office identified the two as David Teneyuque and Chrystal Courtney.

Police have identified the two people involved with the police shooting Wednesday, April 18 as David Teneyuque and Chrystal Courtney.

When police arrived Undersheriff Vandyken says Teneyuque pulled a gun and shot it into the air. Deputies took cover and called for back up.

Local authorities including police and the swat team were involved in a negotiation with Teneyuque for around an hour, police say. Vandyken says the individual later approached the officers and pulled his gun. Multiple officers fired upon him several times, Vandyken says.

Teneyuque was shot and taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Vandyken says one officer from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's department has been placed on paid leave. There were also officers from Kalamazoo Public Safety, the township and Michigan State Police involved in the shooting. Vandyken did not know if the other officers were placed on leave.

Courtney was arrested on outstanding warrants.

The shooting is now under investigation by the Michigan State Police.
