A Wyoming man has pleaded no contest to two felony charges stemming from a deadly crash last year on M-66 in Montcalm County that killed an elderly couple.

Joel Ibarra, 26, entered pleas to operating under the influence causing death for the May 1 crash near Schmeid Road north of Six Lakes in Belvidere Township.

Police say Raymond J. Wrona, and his wife, Mary, both 88, died from injuries suffered in the 7:15 p.m. crash.

Ibarra was driving a 2012 Audi on M-66, attempting to pass several vehicles when he collided with the Wrona’s vehicle, investigators said.

Raymond Wrona was taken to Kelsey Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Mary Wrona was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ibarra and a passenger, a 28-year-old woman from Comstock Park, were also treated for injuries. Criminal charges were filed in July.

Ibarra faces up to 15 years in prison when he returns for sentencing in Montcalm County Circuit Court. A sentencing date has not been set.

Raymond and Mary Wrona, who are survived by five children and 11 grandchildren, were getting ready to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary, according to their obituary.
