Grand Rapids Police say their ramped-up presence in southeast Grand Rapids, led to a decrease in weekend gun violence.
According to the Grand Rapids Commanders, putting more officers in both uniforms and plain-clothes in certain southeast-side neighborhoods has shown a decrease in gun violence. Reports state that officers have also parked a mobile command center near the corner of Eastern Avenue SE and Thomas Street SE.
Operation 'safe streets' has been in affect after GRPD's response to four murders, several attempted murders and more than 60 reports of gunshots since August. Commanders say they made more than 40 arrests on numerous charges and recovered two illegal guns.
The Grand Rapids Police Department has promised to continue their proactive measures to prevent further gun-violence in Grand Rapids.
