A new bond hearing has been set for the teen accused of killing a man during a case of road rage.
The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office says it wants to see the amount increased, since the teen is now charged with murder.
18-year-old Christian Hillman bonded out of jail Wednesday, Nov. 16, sparking controversy in the community.
Prosecutors say the Ada teen attacked and killed 64-year-old William “Andy” McFarlan back on Sept. 29, 2016.
Hillman was originally charged with assault, but when McFarlan died earlier this month, prosecutors authorized a second degree murder charge.
A hearing was set on the new charge for Dec. 1, but the prosecutor’s office says when it learned Hillman might post the $100,000 bond given by the judge at his preliminary hearing on the assault charge, the prosecutor’s office requested a new bond hearing.
It is set for Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016.
If the bond is increased and Hillman can't pay for it -- or if bond is denied, he will be put back in jail before Thanksgiving.
