A 33-year-old man remains in critical condition after a fight in the parking lot of a bar on Grand Rapids' West Side.

It happened early Tuesday, April 18, at The Web Bar on Richmond Street. The victim suffered a collapsed lung, among other injuries, according to police.

The bar owner, Deb Owen, believed she saw the people involved in the fight before she left at 10 p.m. Monday.

"It was a girl and two guys, and they were the last ones that were left in the bar," Owen said.

She said her son, the other owner of The Web, was closing down the bar at midnight.

"During the week we close down at about midnight, we don't stay open until all the way to 2 o'clock because it's not busy enough," Owen said.

During his closing duties, someone came back inside.

"He was closing down and everything was fine and then all of a sudden, he hears that there's a fight out in the parking lot," Owen said.

She said her son didn't see the fight, but after speaking with him -- she believed the two men involved are related. Owen also said this kind of incident is not a regular occurrence at the bar.

"We haven't even had to call the police for anything except for when we had some counterfeit money," Owen said.

Owen said her employees are trained in serving customers alcohol.

"As soon as we notice the signs, which we've all had the classes for we cut them off, we go by what the law says we do," Owen said.

She said disagreements are inevitable because it still is a bar, however she hasn't experienced any violent crime since she bought the place.

"We're just very welcoming to all different people but outside of what they do, I can't control that, I can only control what happens inside my bar and serve them accordingly to the signs that we've been given to look for," Owen said.

Grand Rapids Police are still investigating the case. At this point, no one is in custody. If you have any information about the fight, call the Grand Rapids Police Department at 616- 456-3400 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
