EGR Superintendent announces retirement

Shubel has been the superintendent of the district for 12 years.

East Grand Rapids Public Schools Superintendent Sara Shubel announced that she will be retiring at the end of the 2017-18 school year.

Shubel has been the superintendent of the district for 12 years. Prior to coming to EGR, Shubel worked for the Ingham Intermediate School District. She also has a history of working with the Michigan Department of Education and as a elementary school teacher.

In a press release, Shubel made a statement about her retirement.

"Although my retirement is near, my dedication, commitment, and advocacy work on behalf of public education will not be coming to an end," she said. "However, it is time for a new leader to continue building on what we have accomplished collaboratively in our district and I am looking forward to this new chapter in life.”

East Grand Rapids is a district with three elementary schools, a middle school and a high school that educate about 3000 students.
