Grand Rapids artist to unveil large sculpture at Saint Adalbert Basilica

It's called "Jesus and the Children" and will be on permanent display in front of the basilica.

Grand Rapids artist Mic Carlson will unveil his latest life size statue in front of the St. Adalbert Basilica on Grand Rapids' West Side Sunday, April 8.

It's called "Jesus and the Children" and will be on permanent display in front of the basilica.

Carlson has been working on the bronze sculpture for five years and says it's meant to be used. Children can climb up on the bench and sit in Jesus' lap.

Right now the sculpture is covered with a large cloth, but on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. the unveiling will take place right after mass in front of the Saint Adalbert Basilica.

The public is invited and there will be refreshments after the unveiling.

Saint Adalbert Basilica is located at 654 Davis Avenue NW in Grand Rapids. This is Carlson's fifth large public bronze installation.
