During the first week in July, Michigan Blood will be celebrating their donors with items made for -- and by -- Michiganders.

The "Love Michigan" event runs from July 3 through July 8. According to a news release from the nonprofit, anyone who attempts to donate blood at one of Michigan Blood's main donor centers during that week will receive a t-shirt, SpartanNash bag, Better Made chips and an Old Orchard Juice coupon.

Summer is a time of low blood donations, but high need the nonprofit says. Traffic fatalities are worse during the holiday weekends, and with Fourth of July weekend being one of the worst during the year, according to Michigan State Police -- blood donated during the "Love Michigan" campaign will help local hospitals replenish their supplies after such a busy time.

There are two donation centers in the immediate region participating in the promotion:

Tuesday, July 4: 7:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Wednesday, July 5: 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Friday, July 7: 6 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Saturday, July 8: 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Thursday, July 6: 12 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Michigan Blood is the primary provider of blood and blood products for more than 60 hospitals in Michigan, including Spectrum Health, Metro Health University of Michigan Health and Mercy Health St. Mary's.
