A local hospital is celebrating a milestone tonight. Blodgett Hospital in East Grand Rapids has been serving people for 170 years.

Tuesday night, people at the hospital celebrated the past hundred years, that's when the first building opened on campus.

Past employees say the longevity is due to the dedicated staff.

"Many of us who came here originally came to do our training and our residency, and the hospital has had such a fine tradition of medical education and nursing education over the years," says John Maurer a former employee.

Many things have changed over the years including a merger. It's now known as Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital.
