90-year-old veteran receives high school diploma

Ralph Taylor was two days away from getting his high school diploma, which the Navy called.

GREENVILLE, Mich. — A West Michigan veteran says part of his life is now complete. Monday night he got his high school diploma at the age of 90.

Ralph Taylor graduated from Greenville High School back in 1945. But two days before his graduation ceremony, Taylor got called by the Navy and was unable to attend.

When he got back from the service, Taylor says his mother didn't know anything about the diploma. The years went by and Taylor never really thought much about the missing diploma.

But recently a friend reached out to district leaders in Greenville and tonight at a school meeting, Taylor finally got his diploma one month before his 91st birthday.

"It feels wonderful; it feels complete. I'll be staring at the diploma all night," says Taylor.

About two dozen friends and family attended the ceremony Monday night.
