Art Van Charity Challenge strives to give back to local nonprofits

Charities across our state are competing for a $100,000 grant to use towards their cause.

Every year since 2009, Art Van has hosted a friendly challenge to drive positive change in our community. It's called the Art Van Charity Challenge.

Charities across our state are competing for a $100,000 grant to use towards their cause. Last year's winner, Christy Buck, who founded the Be Nice campaign, joined the noon news to talk more about the challenge and how people can help.

The Art Van Charity Challenge started in 2009 to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary. The challenge is focused on grassroots charities serving women, children and human services. To date, Art Van Furniture has donated more than $8 million and raised over $24 million for more than 350 charities.

Art Van Charity Challenge applications will be accepted through March 31, 2018. The competition is open to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focusing on women, children or human services located near an Art Van Furniture store in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, St. Louis and Iowa.

The fundraising portion of the Art Van Charity Challenge will run May 1 through May 20, 2018.

The charities keep all of the funds they raise. The charity that raises the most will receive a $100,000 grant from Art Van Furniture. Second place will receive a $50,000 grant and third through fifth places will each receive a $10,000 grant.
