One person is critically injured in a two-car crash involving a horse near Coopersville.
Deputies were called 80th Ave. north of Cleveland Street around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Police say the horse was loose when two cars pulled off to the side of the road and turned on their hazzard lights to let it cross. That's when a third vehicle did not stop and hitting the horse, the 2009 Chevy Cobalt then crashed into one of the vehicles pulled off to the side of the road.
The woman who crashed into the horse, identified as 27-year-old Laura Grove from Ravenna, was pinned inside her vehicle. She was extricated and taken from the scene by an Aero Med helicopter. She is listed in critical condition.
The horse was killed in the accident. Its owner said it had broken a fence and escaped near where the crash happened.
The driver of the second car, 39-year-old Rachel Wieten of Ravenna, was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
