Disabled man dead in Wyoming house fire

Disabled Wyoming man found dead after a fire in his house on Rathbone St. SW.

WYOMING, Mich.- A relative says James Taylor was in his 60's, and somewhat disabled, but he does not know if that's why he did not escape when his house caught fire in Wyoming Thursday, April 19.

The fire happened at 1263 Rathbone St. SW was called in just before 9:00 a.m. Investigators have not said how they think it started, but when they arrived firefighters say they could see an electric meter on an outside wall was burning.

When they went inside, they say Taylor was found dead in a rear bedroom of the two-story house.

“He died? What do you mean he died?” said neighbor Kamorra Curtis after hearing the news. “There was a lot of smoke but I don’t see somebody dying in that smoke unless it was worse in the house.”

“He couldn’t really walk right,” says friend Alex Hernandez. “He could walk but he couldn’t do much. I think he was just trapped.”

A relative says Taylor lived in the house with his sister Linda. She was at work when the fire started.

A GoFundMe page has been setup to help the family.
