You might see Spider-man, Deadpool or even a stormtrooper walking around Grand Rapids this weekend. Don't be alarmed, they're all going to Grand Rapids Comic Con.

Grand Rapids Comic Con will be at the DeVos Place from Friday, Oct. 20 to Sunday, Oct. 22. The event brings together fans of comic books, sci-fi and more for the three-day celebration.

"Comic cons are such a great way for people to express themselves, especially in this day and age," said Brandon Kreiner, one of the co-coordinators for the event. "It is completely an event of acceptance because anyone is allowed to come here in any type of outfit."

Bryan Ronk attended the event. "This is a place you can just be the character if you want," he said.

In just three years, the local Comic Con has expanded from a home school building in Wyoming to the Deltaplex last year to the DeVos Place this year. Organizers are expecting thousands of people to show up over the weekend.

Mikaylee Dyhouse is going to Comic Con this weekend because she loves comic books and anime. "You can escape into this fantastical world where anything is possible," she said.

Johannah Jelks dressed up as Sailor Moon. "People want to celebrate their favorite character, also they love to learn about the history and the lore," she said.
