While raking leaves might not be the worst outdoor chore -- depending on how many trees you have in the yard, of course -- trying to stuff a large amount of leaves in the paper yard waste bags is possibly the worst part of the process.
The City of Grand Rapids is considering moving away from bags and tags, and adopting a curbside loose leaf pick-up program. If that happens, homeowners could simply rake leaves to the curb for street pick-up.
The change would cost about $6.2 million a year and require 12 additional workers. The owner of a $100,000 home would see their taxes go up about $50 a year.
