Two people are in police custody and another man believed to be armed and dangerous is on the run in the downtown area following two shootings on the city's Southwest Side.

Officers were called around 3:17 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, to Woolsey Drive and Oxford Street in the city's Black Hills neighborhood, where bullets were found in a home, according to a Grand Rapids Police Department news release.

The home was occupied but no one was hurt, police said.

Around 11:20 a.m. -- about eight hours later -- police again responded to the same home. Witnesses reported seeing three men shooting at the house while sitting in a silver BMW. Another witness reported people shooting at each other.

Just before 11:30 a.m., a person traveling on northbound U.S. 131 at Pearl Street came across the silver BMW, apparently stalled on the ramp, the news release states. As the passerby stopped to help, a suspect in the vehicle pointed a gun at him.

The passerby then called police.

Officers came across the suspect vehicle, which matched the description in the earlier shootings. Two people were pulled from the bullet-riddled car, which contained two handguns.

A third man is wanted after being seen from the vehicle, police say. The suspect is a white male with neck and facial tattoos, and he was seen wearing a light colored hooded sweatshirt. The suspect last was spotted near the JW Marriott.

He could be armed, anyone who spots him is asked to call 911.

"We began to search the area for that third individual, the officers conducted ground, they were searching businesses, they were on foot, they were in cars, they were checking surveillance cameras in the area but unfortunately we were not able to locate that third suspect," Sgt. Terry Dixon said.

Traffic had been slow going on U.S. 131 since police blocked the Pearl Street exit and worked to arrest people in the suspect vehicle. Officers reopened the ramp around 12:40 p.m.

Police were seen with guns drawn to arrest the suspects.

Later in the day Saturday, Grand Rapids Police searched a neighborhood in northwest Grand Rapids in the area of Crosby Street and Davis Avenue.

That search wrapped up just before 11:30 p.m. No arrest were made. Dispatch did tell us it was related to the earlier shootings.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Grand Rapids Police Department at 616-456-3400 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
