It's tax time and the Grand Rapids City Clerk's Office and Income Tax Office are adding Saturday hours to help customers during this busy season.

The City Clerk's Office was open Saturday, March 11 from 8 a.m. to Noon to help citizens apply for passports. The office will also open on Saturday, March 18 during the same hours.

The Grand Rapids Income Tax Department was also be open Saturday. Employees were on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help taxpayers file their City return. The office will also open Saturdays on April 8 and 29 to offer City Tax filing assistance during the same hours.

Filers must bring a picture ID, the first page of a federal return, and any W-2s or schedules. The deadline for filing timely 2016 City of Grand Rapids income tax returns is Monday, May 1.

"The City recognizes the challenge of busy work days and coordinating family schedules, so these offices have stepped up to offer the more convenient service hours," said Communications Director Steve Guitar. "It's a great way for members of our community to prepare for the upcoming travel season and file their City taxes."

Residents can visit both offices inside City Hall at 300 Monroe Ave NW. The City Clerk's Office is housed on the Second Floor; the Income Tax Office is on the Third Floor. Parking is available beneath City Hall in the Government Center Parking Ramp.
