Police in Grand Rapids say an internal investigation has ended and no one will be disciplined after an 11-year-old girl was handcuffed while police were investigating a stabbing on Dec. 6.
GRPD also released the remaining 100 minutes of the body video from the incident.
“No discipline will be issued,” Police Chief David Rahinsky said, in a release. “This, however, in no way diminishes our commitment to identifying what can be done to prevent similar incidents in the future. Concrete steps are being taken to insure equitable outcomes in our interactions with the community.”
The chief also listed actions that the department plans on taking, including:
- Work on policies affecting children
- Interaction with children
Police released the video and ended the internal investigation on the same day a community meeting was held to discuss race relations with police in the city.
