How to apply for a short-term rental in Holland

Holland's short-term rental pilot program is only accepting 25 properties.

After years of waiting short-term rentals are now a reality in Holland. But like most things, there's a process.

Holland's short-term rental pilot program is only accepting 25 properties. In order to be considered for one of them you have to fill out an application that can be found at City Hall or online.

Applications are being accepted from now until May 2 at 5:00 p.m.

However applying for a spot doesn't guarantee anything. Due to all the interest in the program, the city will hold a lottery drawing on May 4 for the 25 spots.

But there are some stipulations in order to quality:

  • Two of these types of rental can't be within 500 feet of each other.
  • You will have to go through an inspection every year
  • You must have proof of liability insurance that shows your property is covered for short term rentals
  • A local agent must be within 35 miles of the property to respond to any complaints
  • The property must be zoned in R-TRN, R-1 or R-2

A full list of requirements and guidelines can be found here.

Now if you apply and get in, the city will notify you by phone or email. You'll then have to pay $150 for an annual registration fee and $150 for an annual inspection fee.

The pilot program will run through June 2020. The council will then decide if they want to continue it or end the program.
