Tulip Time announces parade Grand Marshals for 2018

The Tulip Time Festival Guide is now available offering complete details for the 2018 program

HOLLAND, Mich. - Tulip Time Festival (www.tuliptime.com) is pleased to announce the 2018 Tulip Time Grand Marshals.

Metal Flow Volksparade – Wednesday, May 9

The “People’s Parade” will be led by community leader Don Komejan, manager of Holland Charter Township, who recently announced he will be retiring in May after 26 years. Don joined the township in 1992 and served as assistant superintendent and finance director. In 2009, he became the township manager. Through these years, Don led the township through an economic recession and recovery as well as significant growth.

Holland Charter Township has demonstrated a continuing spirit of collaboration in the community and has been a valued partner of the Tulip Time Festival since 2001. Don served on the Tulip Time Festival Board from 2002-2005 and has continued to be a key resource to the festival. His appointment as Grand Marshal honors his leadership and vision.

Yanfeng & Johnson Controls Kinderparade – Thursday, May 10

This year’s Grand Marshal for the Kinderparade is a group of extraordinary students that participated in the futurePREP’d program offered through the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District (OAISD) this past summer. Tulip Time has collaborated with futurePREP’d on three summer projects. There is also a school year program called the Academy. Through these programs, teachers and students work through a design-thinking model to solve real industry challenges. A group of eleven students will represent futurePREP’d this year in the parade bringing recognition to the program and the student leadership team along with Program Developer, Nicole Gitler.

Quality Car Wash Muziekparade – Saturday, May 12

Lorma Freestone, the Executive Director of the Holland Area Arts Council, has been named as the Grand Marshal of the Saturday Quality Car Wash Muziekparade. Lorma joined the staff of the Arts Council in 2003 as Exhibits Coordinator. She brought expertise in exhibition management and strong community connections. In 2006, she was appointed Executive Director and has since been proactive in bringing the arts to the forefront of local community activities. Her efforts towards this goal include leading the development of the Lakeshore Arts Consortium. In February, Lorma announced her retirement from her role at the HAAC effective in June. By appointing Lorma Grand Marshal, we celebrate her accomplishments and contribution to the Holland area.
