Inmate dies awaiting sentencing in Ottawa County Jail

A 33-year-old male was lodged in the Ottawa County Jail awaiting his sentencing, when officers found him unresponsive. He passed away in the hospital on March 12, 2018.

William VanEyck was found unresponsive in his jail cell, on March 3, 2018, the sheriff's department said he died from self-inflicted injuries.

VanEyck was then transferred to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids, where he later passed away on March 12.

VanEyck was in Ottawa County jail awaiting a sentencing, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Dept. He was charged back in 2015 on one count of malicious destruction of property. VanEyck was involved in 70 cases of anti-police graffiti around Holland.

As per usual, his death is now under investigation.
