A Kalamazoo man is in jail after stealing a car and leading the police on a car chase.
Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to an armed carjacking around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 4 in the 900 block of West Kalamazoo Avenue. Officers were not able to locate the suspect, however, a description of the stolen car and suspect were released immediately.
Police say around 1 a.m. on Sunday, March 5, a KPS Sergeant located the stolen car driving east on Paterson Street near Burdick Street. The sergeant attempted to stop the car, however the suspect drove away and a pursuit was started.
Officers stopped the chase when the suspect began driving against traffic. The suspect slowed down and jumped out of the car to flee on foot, however officers were able to make an arrest not long after the suspect's fleeing.
KPS says reports no one was injured in the carjacking or pursuit.
The suspect is a 20-year-old man from Kalamazoo. His name is being withheld by officials until an arraignment. He was arrested for possession of a stolen car, fleeing and eluding and resisting and obstructing arrest. Police say this investigation is ongoing and more charges may be sought later.
