A Kalamazoo County Sheriff Deputy was injured early Saturday morning after a drunken driver lost control of his car and collided with him.

According to a news release from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office, around 3 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, a deputy was en route to a possible domestic assault in progress in Copper Township.

The deputy was traveling northbound on North 33rd Street, north of Michigan Avenue in Comstock Township, when a 1979 Ford pickup truck, traveling southbound, lost control. The driver, a 23-year-old man from Galesburg, lost control of his car, cross the centerline and went directly in the deputy's path.

The 23-year-old man and the deputy's car collided, the crash injuring the deputy. He was taken to Bronson Hospital to treat his injuries and was released.

According to the sheriff's office, the 23-year-old man was arrested at the crash by Michigan State Police from Paw Paw for operating his car while intoxicated (OWI). He was taken to Borgess Hospital to treat minor injuries and is now lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
