Mujey Dumbuya's family visited the site where the 16-year-old's body was found in Kalamazoo.
Dumbuya was found murdered on Jan. 28; three days after she was reported missing. She was a student at East Kentwood High School.
Dumbuya's family visited the site because they said it is a part of their grieving. They created a shrine with a cross at its center and released balloons into the sky.
"It just all seems like a movie," said Stephanie McGill, Mujey's friend. "But it's real. And I just can't accept the fact that she's not coming back."
"When people pass away, they get buried. Mujey was not buried but was placed there. It was Mujey's grave," said Janiya Sannoh, Mujey's aunt. "We want to say prayers for her and place flowers at the spot in her memory. We want to tell her that we are aware of the situation surrounding her death, and that we will get justice for her, by God's grace. This is also a part of our grieving process."
Before Dumbuya,'s death, the 16-year-old was scheduled to testify in a sexual assault case involving, Quinn James, a former maintenance worker from East Kentwood High School.
Police have not indicated that James is a suspect in the murder case.
