The husband of a 21-year-old Kentwood woman killed Friday, Dec. 15, says he stabbed her in self-defense.
Nicklas Sheridan, 33, was arraigned Monday in Kentwood District Court on a charge of open murder. Investigators say he stabbed his wife, Breann Sheridan, multiple times at the apartment they shared in Kentwood. He told police Breann pulled a knife on him, according a probable cause affidavit filed in Kentwood District Court. Bond was set at $1 million.
Sheridan told police he was able to get the knife from his wife and stabbed her twice in self-defense. Police found his wife unresponsive when they arrived at Woodland Creek apartments.
Drops of blood were located in several rooms of the apartment and inside the bedroom, where investigators say the attack happened. Breann Sheridan had defensive wounds on her hands and incurred two stab wounds, according to the affidavit.
Meanwhile a protective services hearing was held Monday in front of a Kent County judge regarding placement of the couple's two children. Court officials are determining if the children can be placed with a family member or in foster care. Sheridan was denied visitation rights for his children due to the nature of the charge.
