Michigan's shutdown of medical marijuana businesses causing confusion

More than 200 medical marijuana businesses in Michigan have been ordered to close.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — More than 200 medical marijuana businesses in Michigan have been ordered to close.

The state sent out the cease and desist letters over the past couple weeks. They say the businesses don't have the proper paperwork and operating illegally.

But some businesses like The Grassy Knoll which sells CBDs and not medical marijuana are confused.

"A couple weeks ago we got a visit from the Sheriff and he brought in a very official looking letter saying we should close," says Janet Tombre of the Grassy Knoll.

In the Detroit area there is even more confusion as 159 businesses also received cease and desist letters. Some of those shops say they have a court order which allows them to stay open.

"It's ignorant on the state's part because they haven't done their homework and differentiating between the dispensaries and legal places and you cannot lump us all together because we're completely different," says Tombre.

Michigan's medical marijuana licensing board will meet again on April 19.
